Almond oil – for silky smooth lips and supple skin

Almonds provide a gentle yet powerful beauty aid. Their oil contains many valuable ingredients including fatty acids and vitamins. People have known about the positive effects of almond oil for millennia. It was used for health and beauty purposes by the ancient Greeks, Romans and Chinese. Originally, the almond tree was native to Western and Central Asia. Nowadays, it is mainly cultivated in Mediterranean countries like Spain and Italy as well as in California.

The special benefits of almond oil for lip, skin and hair care were overlooked for a long time by the cosmetics industry in favour of other substances and ingredients. But now attention is turning again to the gentle power of almond oil to promote soft, supple and uniformly smooth skin and to reinforce the skin’s structure.

  • Special properties of almond: Strengthens the connective tissue, moisturising, lipid-replenishing, soothing, makes the skin soft and supple, prevents premature ageing of the skin

How one of the most valuable skincare oils is obtained from almonds

After the almonds are harvested, the kernels containing the almond oil are cold pressed in order to preserve the valuable ingredients. These include various unsaturated fatty acids which are similar to the natural lipids found in the body. This makes it easier for the skin to absorb them and break them down. They are good for soothing tired skin. Almond oil also contains a high percentage of oleic acid, which is able to penetrate deep into the skin to improve its elasticity and moisture retention.

Almond oil is also rich in vitamin E, which as an antioxidant can help to maintain the skin’s youthful structure and prevent premature ageing. This gentle oil is quickly absorbed and instantly conditioning for the skin. It is also non-comedogenic, which means it does not block the pores and therefore does not cause break-outs.

Culinary uses of almond oil

As well as its beauty benefits, the almond is also extremely popular as a foodstuff. Whether as a healthy snack to nibble on between meals or as a dressing on fresh salad leaves, its mild and sweetly nutty taste enhances sweet and savoury dishes alike. It is also a good source of protein and provides the body with important nutrients as well as “good” cholesterol.
